Managed Mage-OS Hosting UK

EveryHost hosts Mage-OS, the community distribution of Magento Open Source, on managed servers in a UK data centre. Mage-OS 3.x is built on Magento Open Source 2.4.9, and our servers are set up with what it needs: PHP 8.5, MySQL 8.4 or MariaDB 12.3, OpenSearch 3, Valkey, Varnish and nginx. Managed VPS starts at £119 a month, dedicated servers at £249 and High Availability at £799, all ex VAT, each with a staging environment, Sentinel security monitoring and free migration of your existing Mage-OS store.

The server Mage-OS needs, built for you

Mage-OS 3.x is built from Magento Open Source 2.4.9 code, so it needs the same stack. Every server is built to order on our nginx stack, set to the versions your Mage-OS release needs.

    Mage-OS hosting plans and prices

Mage-OS runs on all our current plans. Which one suits your store depends on your traffic, catalogue, imports and peaks.

Prices ex VAT. UK VAT at 20% added at checkout. Every plan includes a staging environment, on-server backups, 99.9% uptime and free migration.

Most stores start on a Managed VPS. We recommend a dedicated server above about 5,000 orders a month, for high concurrent traffic or for several stores, and High Availability for a checkout that must keep running if a server fails. To check your own numbers, read the Magento server sizing guide or try the Magento server calculator; both apply to Mage-OS.

What "managed" means for a Mage-OS store

We look after the server and the stack underneath your store. Your developer or agency looks after the Mage-OS application.

    What we do

    • Build and configure nginx, Varnish, Valkey, OpenSearch, PHP-FPM and the database for your Mage-OS release.
    • Apply server-level patches, PHP updates and security hardening.
    • Provide a staging environment on the same versions as production.
    • Monitor the server, with 99.9% uptime.
    • Handle restores from your on-server backups.
    • Install free SSL certificates from Let's Encrypt.
    • Act on Sentinel alerts and tell you what happened in plain English.
    • Move your existing Mage-OS store to us, free.
    • Install RabbitMQ if your store needs it.

What your developer or agency does

    • Apply Mage-OS updates, or ask us to apply them at additional cost.
    • Look after extensions, the theme and custom code.
    • Convert a Magento store to Mage-OS, with the stack and a staging copy prepared by us.
    • Test changes and releases on staging before they go live.

    Mage-OS updates and security fixes

Mage-OS delivers Adobe's security fixes as new Mage-OS releases, installed with Composer, rather than as separate patches. Mage-OS says its updates typically follow Adobe's within days, and that only the latest release branch receives fixes, so a Mage-OS store needs a routine for regular updates. See the Mage-OS releases page.

Mage-OS updates are applied by your developer or agency, or by us at additional cost if you would rather we did it. Either way they can be tested on your staging environment first. We keep the server, PHP and the rest of the stack patched underneath.

Moving a Mage-OS store, or moving to Mage-OS

    Already on Mage-OS

Moving your store to EveryHost is covered by our free managed migration. We move your files, database, extensions, media, SSL and server configuration.

    1. We assess your current store.
    2. We copy everything to a staging environment.
    3. You test the store on staging.
    4. We schedule the live cutover with you, in your lowest-traffic hours.

Most stores are live within 24–48 hours. Migrations are carried out with minimum downtime. See how our free migration works.

    On Magento, thinking about Mage-OS

Converting a Magento store to Mage-OS changes the packages it is built from, so it is work for your developer or agency. Mage-OS's own migration script expects Magento Open Source 2.4.9, so older stores upgrade first.

We prepare the 2.4.9 stack and a staging copy of your store, and work alongside your developer while they convert and test it. Read what Mage-OS is and how switching works and our Magento 2.4.7 to 2.4.9 upgrade guide.

    Security: Sentinel and DDoS mitigation

Sentinel is our server-side security monitoring. It watches the server's logs and files for repeated admin password guessing and unusual admin sign-ins, card-skimmer changes to checkout and payment files, malware and unexpected file changes, and scrapers and traffic floods, which it slows with rate limiting.

Alerts go to our UK engineers, who block the source at your server's firewall, deal with the cause and tell you what happened in plain English. Sentinel is not in the request path, so it adds no delay to page loads. It does not replace Mage-OS updates, which are how Adobe's security fixes reach a Mage-OS store.

Managed VPS plans include Sentinel Plus, and dedicated and High Availability plans include Sentinel Pro, at no extra cost. See how Sentinel works.

DDoS attacks are handled separately. Every server sits behind upstream, network-level DDoS mitigation, which absorbs volumetric floods in the network before they reach the server.

    Backups

Backups are held on your server, with frequency and retention set by the disk space available, and our engineers handle restores. Keep your composer.json and composer.lock in version control too, so the exact Mage-OS release can be rebuilt.

For a copy away from the server, Bastion off-site backup is an optional add-on, priced by storage.

It depends on how much of your traffic misses the page cache, your catalogue, your imports and how busy your peaks are, not on page views alone. Most stores start on a Managed VPS. We recommend a dedicated server above about 5,000 orders a month, for high concurrent traffic or for several stores, and High Availability for a checkout that must keep running if a server fails. We can look at your numbers with you before you order.

Converting a Magento store to Mage-OS changes the Composer packages the store is built from, so it is work for your developer or agency. Your developer or agency, or us at additional cost if you would rather we did it. We look after the server, PHP and the rest of the stack underneath.

We build for the current Mage-OS release line, Mage-OS 3.x, which is based on Magento Open Source 2.4.9. If you are still on the Mage-OS 2.x line, which is based on Magento 2.4.8, we can build the matching stack while you plan your move to 3.x, but Mage-OS no longer issues fixes for 2.x.

No. We host Mage-OS on our standard nginx stack without a control panel, so every version on the server can be set to exactly what your Mage-OS release needs.

Yes, on request. Mage-OS lists RabbitMQ as optional, and without it Magento's message queues run through the database. RabbitMQ is worth having for high order volumes, heavy imports or integrations that rely on asynchronous processing.

Yes. Sentinel is our server-side security monitoring: it watches the server's logs and files for admin password guessing, card-skimmer changes to checkout files, malware, unexpected file changes and traffic floods, and our UK engineers act on its alerts. It does not replace Mage-OS updates, which are how Adobe's security fixes reach a Mage-OS store.

Many will, because each Mage-OS package stands in for the matching Magento package. It is not guaranteed: extensions that depend on modules Mage-OS 3.x removed will not install as they are, and Adobe Marketplace extensions still need Adobe's repository and your Marketplace keys. Test your own store on the staging environment before you switch.

No. Mage-OS is run by the Mage-OS Association, a non-profit, and is not affiliated with Adobe. EveryHost is an independent UK hosting company that hosts Mage-OS and Magento Open Source stores.
